Major amendments proposed under Maha. Shops & Estbs. Act, 1948 - The Maharashtra Shop and Establishment Act, 1948

1. Open & Close Hours - Operation of Shops is permitted 24 Hours/7 Days a week 2. Leaves - Employers to give 8 casual leaves in addition to the Privileged leaves in the erswhile act besides there has also been a change in calculation & crediting methodology of the Privileged leaves. Further, Employee shall be permitted to carry forward 45 leaves every year   3. Holidays - Employer to grant 8 Compulsory Paid Holidays against 4 Holidays earlier.   4. Creche - Employers having 50 or more employees to have creche facility in the premises   5. Returns - Introduction of Annual Returns to be submitted by each Establishment     6. Fines & Penalties - Non-production of records for Inspection may attract fine upto 2 Lakhs & penalty for non-compliance is increased upto 1 lakh for each offence.
